Night of Discovery at the Riparian Preserve on Friday, Feb. 17
Gilbert, Ariz. – The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch will light up on Friday, February 17, with the Night of Discovery, the official unveiling to the community of a new 30-foot tall Da Vinci Flying Machine ramada.
The ramada depicts the famous Da Vinci Flying Machine, and features quotes from the masters of astronomy. Luminaria will take guests around the trail at the park to the nearby Gilbert Rotary Centennial Observatory, where a video on the history of telescopes will play, and families can go inside to see the stars and even Jupiter in the sky.
Visitors will be greeted by Da Vinci himself at the Da Vinci Flying Machine, where they can learn and ask questions. The luminaria will guide families to the next stop, the Observatory, where Galileo himself will be answering questions about astronomy. The event is in partnership with the East Valley Astronomy Club, which operates the high powered telescope inside the observatory every Friday and Saturday.
The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch is a popular location for educational programs, tourism activities such as bird watching and healthy activity, and the new ramada and its connection to the observatory offers another opportunity for Gilbert and regional families. More information about the regular programming at the preserve and regular times at the observatory can be found at www.riparianinstitute.com.
Guests can stay when the event ends around sundown, and try to find Jupiter and stars in the sky in the Observatory.
